11/30/2024 0 Comments 382) Vlogmas: Deck The Chairs 2024 - Daytime Display Walking Tour - Jax Beach, Florida 11.30.24 Join me for a live walking tour of the 2024 Deck The Chairs holiday display in downtown Jacksonville Beach, Florida. This annual tradition at the beach is set up all across the lawn at the Seawalk Pavilion. The display is lit nightly with music, concessions for sale, and is completely free to attend - no entry ticket is required. Today also happens to mark the final day of the 2024 Hurricane Season! So, needless to say, we will be celebrating this momentous occasion and saying goodbye to all that is and was for 2024. I especially love that, during this time of year, just simply going for a morning walk along 1st Street, I can see the fun and festive holiday decorations. The sight of this display definitely brings me back in time to when I first moved down here to Florida, and this was the first sign of Christmas here at the beach for me. Today we’ll be checking out each of the lifeguard chair displays and who their associated sponsor or business/organization is hosting each chair. Some of us deck the halls… Jax Beach Decks The Chairs. Every year here in Florida, I get really excited when the Deck the Chairs display is brought over to the SeaWalk Pavilion in downtown Jacksonville Beach. To me, seeing the display being built and brought to life along the oceanfront, really makes me feel that the holidays are nearly here. By next week this display will be fully set up, and laughter, music, and the feeling of holiday community togetherness will be here once again. There will be hot chocolate, Dunkin Munchkins, ornaments, and candy canes. There will be music. And there will be beautiful lights once more… all set up on lifeguard chairs! Deck the Chairs is the first Christmas holiday decoration display in Florida that I saw after moving down here back in 2017. So each year when I see it, I am brought back to my first Christmas as a Floridian, where I was trying to find every single holiday lights display in town that I could, having never seen any of it before. Everything was new to me. And there was so much excitement, as well as simple curiosity. Now, more than seven and half years later, living here at the beach, Deck the Chairs is still always one of the first signs of the upcoming holidays. I’m still just as excited when I see it being set up, and I still look forward to opening night. Video 514. #deckthechairs #jacksonvillebeach #florida ___   A Jolly Holiday to all from Jarboe Park! Thanks for joining me yesterday at this fabulous park in Neptune Beach, Florida! Jarboe Park has quite a lot going for it - there's a great walking trail loop, a lake with a fountain, a community center, volleyball, tennis and basketball courts, plus multiple playgrounds for children of various ages. Also, they've even got an outdoor fitness station set along the trail. The butterfly garden in the center of the park is so pretty. And after our livestream ended I even saw a bunch of butterflies flying around it! But, my favorite part may have been walking through the community garden. I haven't really explored a community garden in many years. The last one I remember being up in Naperville, Illinois many years ago. I love the concept, and really enjoyed seeing all the different plots and variety of plantings. Finally, all the birds and ducks have quite a special home there, and really seem to enjoy the fountain as much as I enjoyed listening to it. Thanks so much for exploring Jacksonville, Florida's historic Avondale neighborhood with me yesterday. This was the first time we live streamed in this area of town, as well as my first time ever spending any length of time in this beautiful place. Upon entering the business district I was immediately struck with this bright and impactful mural. I love the expression of the trees, as trees here in the South are so bold and daring. I think the artist who painted these trees captured their lovely story so well. This mural was on the north side of St. Johns Avenue - keep in mind we will cover the south side of the street in detail in a future livestream. I wanted to bring you to Avondale this week, just before the official "Christmas In Avondale" event that will be taking place next month. Join me this Wednesday for a walking tour of the historic Avondale neighborhood in beautiful Jacksonville, Florida. We’ll start our walk in a local park, and watch the sunrise along the scenic St. Johns River. Then we’ll stroll down St. Johns Avenue to see the shops, restaurants and local businesses that make up The Shoppes of Avondale. And then we’ll end our walking tour at another area park. There’s quite a variety of restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream shops, candy stores, antique shops and other local area businesses in this part of town! At Yacht Basin Park. This amazing and free park is located along the bank of Willowbranch Creek - just before it flows right into the St. Johns River in Jacksonville, Florida. I'm so glad to have discovered this quiet little spot, and can't wait to go back again. It was located at the end of our walking tour of Jacksonville's historic Riverside neighborhood. We strolled down Riverside Avenue on Friday, covering areas I haven't live streamed before. It always amazes me when I find lovely little parks such as this one. It's tucked away at the end of the street, just one property behind the river, and directly along the creek. There are a few designated parking spots, and plenty of benches and places to sit and have your coffee or lunch. There's a gazebo with mosaic tile art all around it, bird baths, and little pathways to explore. My favorite part of Yacht Basin Park were the trees, including a single, massive live oak tree draping over the park and providing much needed shade. Its branches telling the story of its long life, growing angled downward straight into the ground and then back up toward the sky again, over and over. I always wonder how many hurricanes such a tree had to endure, and survive, in order to take that journey, and grow to such an old age? I think such a tree must have seen a hard and painful life, protecting this precious little park and all who come to visit. Watching tropical storms and storm surge come right up to it many a time. But I also think this tree must really love its life just the same. When you look up at a tree, do you see the journey it took, and the life it had to live, in order to be alive in this present moment with you? Love you, Christine

For at least a few more days anyway. If you have a taste for a soft pretzel while strolling down historic St. George Street, there are two fine options and I've had both. Ben's Soft Pretzels being the first, and then there's the very well known Auntie Anne's. This was an Auntie Anne's day, with some pretzel nuggets - to bring home for Genevieve, maybe? Ben's has a beautiful courtyard situated behind the shop, and Auntie Anne's is located inside the entrance to Pierre's Pub. Both pretzel shops are on the same street, on the same block, within sight of one another. Both serve fresh, hot, buttered pretzels, and both are fabulous. It could mean the name of a frozen drink, or it could be a weather forecast. But maybe it just means... Florida. Whatever it means, I thought it was perfection. So here are my treasures I came home with from Amelia Island. We stopped in What-A-Nut after a fabulous lunch downtown Fernandina Beach. I saw this hat in the window, and it was the only one left with that saying printed on it. It was instantly in my hands and off to the register. Two pieces of chocolate later, and it was all simply meant to be. WhatANut is located at: 118 Centre Street Fernandina Beach, Florida 32034 Located about one block from the water, it's a great, small gift shop, with some trinkets and various other treasures. But they also offer fresh baked cookies, ice cream, and nuts. The hat cost $27.95, and the chocolates were roughly $3.00 per candy. Definitely worth a stop in for a sweet treat, or cold ice cream, when you're on Amelia Island. And as I am already dreaming about and pondering my next visit, maybe I'll be checking out the fudge shop next time? Hmmm. But for now, here's wishing everyone some abundant sunshine - and no actual real life hurricanes sent your way. This beautiful town - located on Amelia Island - is truly one of my favorite little slices of The Sunshine State. Today’s walking tour is in a different part of downtown than I’ve ever walked with you before on livestream. And there will be some new history to learn while we’re at it, as well.  What a fabulous intracoastal preserve... We made a really nice 1.90 mile loop here at beautiful Dutton Island Preserve this week! I love taking y'all here at least seasonally now, to help capture the different environment as it changes throughout the year. This was not our first livestream here, and it definitely won't be our last. For one, it's just so refreshing and peaceful. And two, this preserve captures that 'real Florida' feeling quite nicely. Plus, we always see so many different types of plants and foliage, wildlife, as well as the changing tides. There is a quiet serenity when walking above these waters, and out into the salt marsh. It's hard to imagine life here without these beautiful, natural landscapes and waterways. And I think that as the world keeps growing and developing, I'll continue to appreciate these precious places and spaces even more, as life continues on our beautiful planet. Join me on a 30 minute POV sunrise beach walk this morning in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. This day also happens to mark the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on America. And with that anniversary, I find myself taking note that my YouTube Channel has a very large, and really, quite substantial historical component to the subject matter that we come across on our adventures together. In fact, just less than two months ago, we came across a beam from the World Trade Center on a livestream I did in downtown Tinley Park, Illinois (linked below). And just last week, while livestreaming in historic downtown Valdosta, Georgia, I came across another September 11th memorial on the front lawn of the Lowndes County Courthouse. And in many, many other live streams we have come across other memorials, statues, dedications, historical markers, and tributes to those who suffered and perished in a variety of battles and wars throughout history. And this includes those who fought and died for our freedoms in America, including those in the wars following and because of September 11th. All of this is not lost on me today - on this very solemn day. And as a YouTuber, where on my livestreams I find myself standing literally LIVE in so many tragic and deeply sad and sacred grounds, to bring you along with me as I venture to these historical places and sites. I do realize we are currently living in a time where we are witness to the fact that as each year now passes, the events of 9/11 are pushed further and further away from modern life, and into the history books of the past. So today, in order to keep the historical significance of this date alive, we’ll discuss some facts and history about September 11th, 2001.   Good morning fellow dreamers! Join me on this beautiful day for a LIVE walking tour of fabulous downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee! This is our second livestream in Chattanooga! I have the first one linked down below, where we show a different street than on this tour. For this livestream, we are starting at The Chattanoogan Hotel - which is a Curio Collection by Hilton property. We walk down Broad Street, and Market Street, toward the banks of the Tennessee River. I show you some historical markers, monuments, and other statues and dedications from various points throughout Chattanooga’s history. We end the walking tour high in the sky above the Tennessee River on a pedestrian-friendly bridge crossing. It’s quite a view, and I highly recommend a leisurely stroll through Chattanooga next time you’re in the area.   Day 7 of our 7 day September road trip was spent in downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee. This was our second livestream walking tour in Chattanooga, having been there with you once before on a very hot July evening this summer. And while on that stream, the sun was setting, and the lights on the mountain tops could be seen in the far off distance. On this walk, the day was just beginning. We started our walking tour at The Chattanoogan Hotel - which is a Curio Collection by Hilton property. We walked down Broad Street, and Market Street, as we ventured toward the banks of the Tennessee River. We saw and read many historical markers, as well as monuments, statues and other dedications, while we learned a bit about some of Chattanooga's history together. We ended our morning walk together high in the sky, on a pedestrian-friendly bridge crossing over the picturesque river. There was much to see, a lot to learn, and plentiful fresh mountain air to breathe in. It is my hope that this air lifts your spirits high, and rejuvenates your soul.
