Plus, we had some special guests joining us today! @rollinwiththenolans We began with a venti hot latte from Starbucks in the Town Square, then viewed the brand new - and first annual - Christmas Tree trail, which was a very welcome surprise! Then we strolled down through the neighborhood to Landon Park and the butterfly garden, and onward to the banks of the St. Johns River. San Marco still remains my very favorite area of Jacksonville. We got really lucky because we even just happened to randomly see Santa Claus breeze past us on a hoverboard, cruising down the Southbank Riverwalk! I guess he was a on a brief lunch break. Video 510. Livestream 210. #walkingtour #jacksonville #florida ___ 11/2/2024 0 Comments 358) Yacht Basin Park in Jacksonville, Florida's Historic Riverside Neighborhood Love Life... At Yacht Basin Park. This amazing and free park is located along the bank of Willowbranch Creek - just before it flows right into the St. Johns River in Jacksonville, Florida. I'm so glad to have discovered this quiet little spot, and can't wait to go back again. It was located at the end of our walking tour of Jacksonville's historic Riverside neighborhood. We strolled down Riverside Avenue on Friday, covering areas I haven't live streamed before. It always amazes me when I find lovely little parks such as this one. It's tucked away at the end of the street, just one property behind the river, and directly along the creek. There are a few designated parking spots, and plenty of benches and places to sit and have your coffee or lunch. There's a gazebo with mosaic tile art all around it, bird baths, and little pathways to explore. My favorite part of Yacht Basin Park were the trees, including a single, massive live oak tree draping over the park and providing much needed shade. Its branches telling the story of its long life, growing angled downward straight into the ground and then back up toward the sky again, over and over. I always wonder how many hurricanes such a tree had to endure, and survive, in order to take that journey, and grow to such an old age? I think such a tree must have seen a hard and painful life, protecting this precious little park and all who come to visit. Watching tropical storms and storm surge come right up to it many a time. But I also think this tree must really love its life just the same. When you look up at a tree, do you see the journey it took, and the life it had to live, in order to be alive in this present moment with you? Love you, Christine

Let’s find some murals, parks, the iconic Murray Hill Theatre, shops and restaurants, and a bunch of the area parks and green spaces - all nestled along the area just off the banks of the St. Johns River near downtown Jacksonville, Florida. After walking from the Murray Hill Theatre all the way to the fabulous Murray Hill mural right by U.S. 17, we’ll cross under the bridge and walk through the historic Riverside Avondale neighborhood. There, we’ll see four parks and end the walking tour at the foot of the St. Johns River. Ummm, wow - this was amazing! Here’s some highlights - beyond the simple fact that we learned SO much - we saw murals, the iconic Murray Hill Theatre built in the late 1940’s, bees, a multitude of flowers, two different black cats - one of whom I got to have a deep conversation with and take a selfie with. We saw many unique and old houses, drank our morning coffee together, walked 2.27 miles down Edgewood Avenue, saw the roundabout construction taking place, and to top it all off, we got to see two Amtrak trains fly by! Spoiler - we’re having a railroad themed Floridian Adventure next week! It was definitely quite an adventure in lovely Jacksonville, Florida, and I’m so very grateful you could join me. Meet the two newest members of our Community of Dreamers! So, this is who I ran into after my livestream yesterday. We are now fast and forever friends, and had a deep, long, and in-depth conversation with each other. It was riveting, life-changing, and I'll never forget meeting these two kind and precious creatures IRL. Sadly, as the livestream had ended, I could not ask them if they wanted to say hello LIVE and chat with y'all, but they graciously allowed me to take their photos. In fact, they really didn't want to say goodbye either. They hung around for quite some time, just exploring around me. Something tells me I could have stayed there all day, and maybe they would have stayed with me? But then, I think once they finally realized I wasn't going to feed them anything, they eventually made their way onward to their next adventure in life. Let’s set my Apple Watch and go for a walk together along the beautiful St. Johns River. I’ve been captivated by this large body of moving water ever since we moved from Illinois to Jacksonville, Florida back in 2017. I love that I can find dolphins in this water, it always surprises me, to this day. I guess it’s because I certainly never saw a dolphin floating along in the DuPage River in Naperville, Illinois, or the Fox River in St. Charles, Illinois. So, basically, I’m always looking for a way to be able to look at this body of water. And, I’m always searching for dolphins, as well. And with that, today I am taking you on a leisurely stroll from the Lions Club Boat Ramp to the Blue Cypress Fishing Pier. We’ll be walking along a lovely boardwalk, literally right on the shores of the St. Johns Riverbank. The City of Jacksonville skyline is hidden, but peaking out in the distance. There are ships, and tugboats, birds, and sailboats. The air is cold, the wind is brisk, and it’s just about 50 degrees. I’m freezing. But that’s not going to stop me from walking with y’all today. Boy, was this place cool! Next time you’re driving on Highway I-4 near Orlando, check out this beautiful stop in Sanford, Florida… There is a fabulous little rest area - literally just off the highway - and it’s a peaceful little respite, in the midst of the Orlando traffic and congestion. Lake Monroe is situated along the banks of the St. Johns River, at the headwaters of the river actually. And on this overcast and gloomy autumn day, we had basically been driving south along the St. Johns River for many miles, so it was nice to actually stop along the river for our break. We had a blast watching boats, cars, and trains go by, both Amtrak trains and Sunrail trains, crossing Lake Monroe over bridges. It was a brief stop on a long six hour journey in the car, but one I definitely had to share with you because of the excitement, and mostly, because of the natural beauty I was surrounded by. Next time you’re in the area, Lake Monroe is definitely worth stopping by to stretch your legs, before heading on to the next part of your journey. Today we’ve got to ‘fall behind’ - as they say. Tonight, at 2AM. Don’t forget to change your clocks. So let’s do it together y’all. And let me know your thoughts on turning back the clocks. To me - there’s one good thing about it - we gain an hour - but that’s today only. And, that one hour is enough to completely knock me out of my routine, and minor adjustments are needed to get reestablished during the next few days. Dog included. So I’m not really fond of either the spring ahead, or fall behind. However, if I have to choose one, I’ll choose to fall behind any day, only because we gain an hour, that one day out of the year. So, tonight, once again, we are transferring from Daylight Savings Time to Standard Time. So - this adventure - I am soooo happy to bring to you! You guys - I have crossed the St. Johns River on the Auto Ferry more times than I could have ever counted. I LOVE this Jacksonville icon with all my heart. And today, I’m actually sharing it LIVE, with YOU! I hope you enjoy my trip across the beautiful and flowing St. Johns River, as viewed from inside the car, and from outside the car. Enjoy the sights and sounds - including the very loud boat horn. And while the pelicans may just be my favorite part of every trip across, please make sure to keep your eye open for dolphins, various birds, massive freight ships, Singleton’s Seafood Shack on the Mayport Village side, and the Sandollar Restaurant on the Fort George Island side of things. Our fare was $8.00 for a weekend trip. Fares are one way. There are bathrooms on both sides of the river, which come in useful, especially if you are far from home, or end up waiting for the ferry for a very long time. There are also picnic tables and a viewing platform/pavilion on either side of the river. And now, I even noticed an Amazon Locker on the Mayport side during this visit!
